At the time of writing this post, I have been in full swing with my support raising process for about three weeks. Given this fact, I think it is fitting to cover a bit of what Iยดve learned and grown in during this process.
Going in to support raising, I must confess that I had a pretty typical view of support raising. Even though I realized that it was a great opportunity to grow more dependent on the Lord, my general view of the whole process was asking people for money. At the same time that I was excited to go through this learning curve of dependence on the Lord, I was also quite nervous, and slightly apprehensive, about asking people for money (as most people are). To sum it up, I would say I was half-way between seeing support raising as a chore and seeing it as a privilege. Throughout the course of the 7-day Support Raising Devotional provided by World Race, however, I realized that raising support is so much more than just asking people for money. It means inviting them to participate, through you, in your mission and calling. In addition, it is something that Jesus did quite frequently, setting the example for all Christians who want to follow in His footsteps.
Now, just because I gained this knowledge in regards to support raising does not mean that my worries or anxieties about the process disappeared completely. While this study certainly calmed my heart significantly in respect to raising support, I would be lying if I said I was completely at ease with the process after merely one week of reflection and study. I recognize the fact that that sort of transformation of heart and mind takes some time (sort of like our walk with Christ!). However, I also recognize that, through prayer and more dependence on the Lord, He will work in my heart so as to complete the transformation of my heart and mind. In the mean time, I must continue to move forward with support raising, always trusting in His promise for my life. I guess, in conclusion, that itยดs all just a part of learning and growing in my faith and His Way.
